The Role

Material Handler is the position’s designation as WesTrac seeks to fill the vacant position at Perth Airport. The individual would be required to perform machine operating duties such as cleaning grade loaders, skid steers, and graders as a regular activity of the position.

Furthermore as a Material Handler, the individual would be key in supervising the operations in the yard to ensure all machines and equipment are loaded and unloaded when needed.

You will also carry out activities such as monitoring and changing task machines and operating tasks such as performing vehicle pre-starts along with working an operating gate. Specifically you will organize and manage the display area of the customers with all of the equipment in an orderly condition.

It is noted that the job requires a very strong work ethic as there is need to be willing to work under outdoor conditions and move around doing a variety of different tasks.

This type of role would be suitable for someone who is an active team player and loves to keep busy as such is the nature of the role.

Scope of Work

A material handler’s core tasks in a company include:

• Machine Washing: Washing all types of machinery on-site, ensuring the machines are in the ‘as new’ condition for customers.
• Site Cleanliness: All wash pad facilities will be kept in an orderly and clean condition at all times.
• Customer Display Area: All equipment that is to be used for demonstration or for viewing by the customer will be maintained in clean and attractive condition within the customer display area.
• Loading & Unloading Machines: Once on site, the employee will assist with the loading and or the unloading of the machinery and attachments.
• Forklift Operation: Forklift will be operated wherever necessary and only for the purpose of the tasks being done on site.
• Machine Movement: Employees will also assist in spotting and moving of machines within the work yard to ensure that these machines are safely and efficiently placed where they are required.
• Safety & Compliance: All the operations mentioning with the requirements of WesTrac awareness about safety standards and best practices are all undertaken efficiently.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will be required to satisfactorily fulfil the following criteria:

• Forklift License: A sufficient forklift ticket is necessary and it must include ivocation of driving a forklift at work.
• Experience: Work experience as a yard or trades assistant is highly recommended and ideally, a yardwork environment with heavy machinery would be suitable.
• Machinery Familiarity: There is an advantage for person who has experience working with different machinery like loaders, graders, and skid steers.
• Safety Awareness: Working around all the time with a safe attitude and awareness to ensure safe working practices.
• Physical Stamina: Capability to work outside during different weather conditions and perform various functions, including washing of large machinery and assisting to move equipment around.
• Teamwork: Working effectively in a team to ensure a pleasant and efficient work place.Self-Motivation: Ability to accomplish tasks in an independent manner, and control time properly.
