We are currently looking for a skillful seamstress/tailor in our Calgary branch. Dressmaker in Calgary seamstresses/cutting for Calgary and the vicinity tailoring jobs are in high demand. Role Responsibilities
Seamstress/Tailor would have the following as part of the everyday duties:
Creating Made-to-Measure Garments: You will be required to make special garments according to the client’s specifications such as measurements, fabric, and the desired style.
Fitting, Altering and Repairing Garments: You will fit clients by altering garments as per their specifications. This can mean adjusting the length of hems or seams to make a custom fit for the body.
Operating Sewing Machines and Hand Sewing: Your primary instrument will be the industrial sewing machines, however you may also need hand sewing for details or delicate fabrics.
Working with Various Fabrics: The fabric used in clothing constructions may be either cotton, nylon, polyester, satin, silk, velvet, pile fabrics, or leather. Depending on how each fabric behaves, you must be ready to adjust your sewing methods and sewing techniques.
Attention to Detail: The job’s requirements necessitate great precision and consistency in every detail because no opportunity can be allowed to slip out of the hands. Customer satisfaction is directly dependent on your thoroughness.
Maintaining a Clean Work Environment: It is important to keep your working area in order to improve your productivity. You will also be tasked with the maintenance and cleaning of the sewing equipment, and tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
Education: May be able to pass the secondary (high) school graduation certificate or have an equivalent experience. Tailoring, fashion design, and other beaux-arts courses are good to have.
Experience: Ideal candidate should have prior working experience as a seamstress or a tailor. Experience in basic alteration and repairing of garments is an added bonus, however, the right candidate will be trained.
Fabric Knowledge: Cotton, nylon, polyester, satin, silk, velvet and leather are the fabrics that may be used without challenges.
Sewing Skills: Knowledge of how to use industrial sewing machines along with hand-sewing skills when required.
Eye for Detail: Attention to detail is critical when it comes to sewing alterations and custom tailoring. You will know how to do everything so that your work is performed at a great level.
Stamina: Capacity to be in a standing position for a long and to perform repetitive motions like sewing, cutting, and fitting clothes.
Ability to see color: Ability to tell apart different colors and work with fabrics of different patterns.
