About the Role

In your capacity as a Support Worker at Sunnyfield, you will be responsible for assisting individuals with disability in living an ordinary life of choice. You will support clients toward independence, participation and undertaking worthwhile activities.

This part-time, permanent position is located in our lovely site in Terry Hills, NSW. The role entails delivering care support across personal, daily living, community participation, and behavior support activities.

The shifts will include, early morning e.g. starting at 6 am, day, afternoon, weekends, and at times wake over. As such, flexibility in working across different shift types is essential. The efforts at work will encourage and support a good work culture that enables clients to have control of their lives and change their lives for the better.

Key Responsibilities:

Assisting with Activities of Daily Living:

  • You will work alongside clients in their homes and assist them in completing menus, cooking, chores, and other basic everyday activities.
  • Your role also involves providing personal care such as bathing, dressing, and assistance in toileting while maintaining clients’ dignity and respect at all times.
  • Assist clients with their medications by helping with reminders and other help that is needed.
  • Participating in Community and Managing an Active Life: The very first and the most fundamental chore of this position entails aiding and encouraging the clients to remain active. The person will assist clients toward taking parts in these activities such as socializing, going out shopping, and simply going out.
  • You will also be assisting clients with various community support activities which are meant for clients rehabilitating and enhancing their social, emotional, and physical health.

Behavior Support:

  • You will utilize positive behavior support techniques which assist caregivers to understand and implement appropriate behavioral interventions.
  • In this way, clients will be assisted through approaches that enable them to deal with behaviors that prevent them from being independent and being socially active.

Communication with Families:

  • Developing effective communication with families is also an important element which comprehensively governs the welfare and the development of clients.
  • You participate in meetings with families, where you address the goals of the clients, their challenges, their successful achievements, and how to successfully deal with them in the future.

Collaboration with Team Members:

  • Here you form an integral part of the client’s team and work with other support workers, managers, and external health professionals in the home care business to ensure the optimal outcome for the client.
  • You actively participate in the follow up and progress evaluation team meetings aimed at sharing the observations and insights that can help in improving the quality of care provided.

Experience in the Disability Sector:

Applying for this position means you will be performing personal care tasks. This part of the role enables clients to be able to uphold their dignity and independence whilst carrying out daily tasks.

Strong Communication Skills:

If you are looking to work in this position, you should be able to work under direct supervision of your colleagues, clients, and their families. Clear communication is important to be able to build relationships and provide the best care possible.

Creativity and Flexibility:

In this position, new tasks will be presented every new day and that’s what makes this role interesting. This is why we require candidates who are flexible and creative with their approaches to caring for clients as they may be required to come up with new techniques to engage the clients.

Resilience and Empathy:

The disabled community sector is one where workers may be overwhelmed with emotions so there is a need to be resilient whilst also having patience and empathy to help manage working in such conditions.

Ability to Work Alone or Collaboratively as Part of a Team:

You need to be able to operate independently when required, while also being able to assist in a group. Being a team player is essential in rendering quality care services and meeting the requirements of the clients.

Driver’s License:

It is necessary for you to possess an up to date driver’s license along with a dependable car for this position. You will be required to drive clients to their scheduled events and appointments while in the community.
